Let’s be honest… a family photoshoot can sometimes feel a bit like herding cats (I get it!). Especially when Dad isn’t exactly thrilled about being in front of the camera, and he’s probably imagining stiff smiles and endless posing. But I promise you, it really doesn’t have to be that way. Fun family photos are totally possible (yes, even with reluctant toddlers or camera-shy grown-ups!).
As a West Sussex family photographer, I focus on making sessions fun and relaxed. I want you to feel like you’re enjoying a day out and not just posing for pictures.
Want to get everyone excited for a family photoshoot? Here’s the secret: focus less on perfect poses. It’s about connection, laughter, and making memories you’ll treasure forever.

Life goes so fast, and the little moments are the ones you’ll want to relive. A family photoshoot is your chance to press pause. It’s not about looking perfect, it’s about capturing your family just as they are right now.
In years to come, when you see these photos, you won’t remember what you wore or if everyone was smiling at the camera. You’ll remember how it felt. The connection. The joy. The love.
As your family photographer, I’ll help you choose the right location in West Sussex, and on the day, I’ll guide things just enough to keep it feeling easy and relaxed—never forced or awkward.
When it comes to family photos, I truly believe the best moments happen when you’re simply being yourselves and just enjoying being together.
You don’t need to pose or perform. I’m there to capture the real stuff—the connection, the love, the little in-between moments that tell your story just as it is.

Want to help things go smoothly? Here are a few simple ways to make sure your session feels relaxed and fun:
🌿 Let your kids know it’s going to be more like playtime than a photo shoot.
🌿 Dress comfortably in clothes you can move in (and that feel like you).
🌿 Bring small, mess-free snacks to keep little ones happy.
🌿 Trust the process. Some of the best moments happen when you least expect them.
When everyone feels comfortable and prepared, those natural smiles come out all on their own.
Choosing outfits can feel like a bit of a minefield, but honestly, just keep it simple. Soft, neutral tones tend to work beautifully outdoors, and anything that feels comfortable and you is always a good choice. The goal isn’t to look perfect, but to feel relaxed so your connection takes centre stage.
Try to steer clear of bold logos or clashing prints, and bring a few bits to keep everyone happy—think wipes, snacks, water, that kind of thing. You’ll likely be moving around a fair bit, so a small backpack with the essentials is ideal.

All of my family sessions take place in the evening, during golden hour—and there’s a reason for that! Golden hour is that magical window just before sunset when the light is soft, warm, and golden. It creates a dreamy glow that flatters every skin tone and adds a gentle, natural sparkle to your photos.
But it’s not just about the light. Something special happens during that time of day. The world feels calmer as the day winds down. Kids often feel happier with a slower pace. This calmness helps them connect better with each other and the camera.
Golden hour sessions allow us to make the most of the natural beauty around us, without harsh sunlight or squinting eyes. Whether we’re in an open field, by the beach, or among the trees, it’s the perfect backdrop for capturing genuine moments of love and joy.
Forget stiff, formal photos. My sessions are full of movement, laughter, and connection. Think piggyback rides, tickles, shoulder rides, or simply walking hand in hand. These moments are what make your gallery feel real.
Often, it’s the parent who was most unsure at the start that ends up enjoying it the most. Once everyone settles in and realises there’s no pressure to perform, genuine smiles start to appear, and that’s when those fun family photos start to unfold.

At the heart of it all, these sessions are about more than just photos, they’re about making memories you’ll look back on with full hearts. I want your images to bring you right back to that moment every time you see them. The giggles. The cuddles. The love. Even Dad might admit it was actually fun…and that’s saying something.
At the end of the day, these sessions are about more than just pretty pictures. They’re about freezing a moment in time—a season of life that will never happen in quite the same way again.
If you’re dreaming of a relaxed, joyful experience that results in fun family photos you’ll genuinely love, I’d love to hear from you.
